in the
Nottingham Evening Post, 25th February, 1895
The death of Mr. Marshall Hall Higginbottom, surgeon, which took place at his residence, 56, Shakespeare Street, Nottingham, yesterday, at the age of 72, will revive in the minds of the many of the older residents in the town the name of one who was well known and highly esteemed as a local practitioner. He was, in point of fact, one of the eldest members of the profession in Nottingham, but was virtually out of practice during the last 16 or 17 years. The deceased had been ailing for some years, and during the last four had been attended by Dr. Marshall. At Christmas he suffered from an attack of pneumonia from which he recovered, but his death yesterday was the result of a second attack of the same complaint. The late Mr. Higginbottom was born in 1822, and was a son of John Higginbottom, F.R.S., well known in this town a generation ago, who married a daughter of Mr. Robert Hall, of Basford Hall, Nottingham. Mr. Higginbottom studied at Guy’s and St. Thomas’s Hospitals, and commenced practice in Nottingham with his father. In an interval between his qualification an beginning practice he was entrusted with more than one patient by his uncle, Dr. Marshall Hall, of London. He travelled for some time, going to Madeira, Constantinople, and various places in the East. He married Harriet Gregory the youngest daughter of Mr. John Hall, surgeon, of Sheffield, who was brother to Dr. Marshall Hall. In the later years of his life he had two partners -
